Keeping fit during lockdown

Sitting is the new smoking, with risks to health soaring the longer we’re sat on our bums daily. Long periods of inactivity contributed to 70,000 deaths in the UK in 2016 due to ­obesity, cardiovascular ­disease, increased blood ­pressure and type2 diabetes.

I spoke to European champion powerlifter, Rhys Charlesworth, founder of specifixtraining.com and author Big Secret of Fat Loss, for his top tips.

They include turning your daily walk into a hike, adding interval training to your normal routine, reversing effects of sitting by squatting, utilising ad breaks and housework for extra movement, and using stairs to bring cardiovascular health and muscular strength.
