Plantar fasciitis and losing weight
The spring’s back in my step
Slimming World
Hazel lead a busy and active life, and spent all day on her feet in her job at the children’s play centre she she ran with her sister.
But one morning, a searing pain shot through her calf and stayed for eight months. A podiatrist diagnosed Hazel with plantar fasciitis, a condition that affects the soft tissues of the feet.
Hazel was prescribed special insoles to support her arches and reduce the pain from the plantar fasciitis but when she got home, she read up for hours on the condition.
Again and again, she saw a major risk factor was being overweight. Over the last few years since her son had arrived, Hazel found the weight had been creeping on, robbing her confidence.
Months later and still in pain, Hazel took the plunge and joined her local Slimming World group. It was absolutely life changing for her as she shed 5 stone on their food optimising plan. Best of all, the pain in her calf and the plantar fasciitis cleared up.
I wrote Hazel’s story for Slimming World magazine, which reaches half a million readers a month. With special thanks for Dr Jeff Foster, and Mr Stuart Metcalfe of Spire Parkway Hospital for their medical insight.
