Miss Lou's memory lives on
Our grandmother’s frugal Caribbean cooking taught us so much
BBC Good Food magazine
I spoke with talented chefs and identical twins, Jo and Leisa Creed, who run the fabulous Penny Pincher’s paradise cooking blog, for a wonderful series about family recipes in BBC Good Food magazine.
Jo and Leisa were born and raised in Jamaica, living next door to their grandmother, Miss Lou, a hardworking, frugal mum of 10. They learnt to cook in her little kitchen, soaking up all Miss Lou knew about seasoning, stretching her ingredients, preserving food and being a kind and giving neighbour.
Talking to Jo and Leisa was such an incredible pleasure and I learnt so much about Caribbean cooking. The ladies, who were teachers for many years, live in Birmingham together and carry on sharing their knowledge and Miss Lou’s stories through their community outreach work.
Their family story appeared in BBC Good Food magazine.
