Baking brought light back into my life

BBC Good Food Column

Karenza mason turned to baking after a difficult period of her life when she lost most of her vision, her job and saw her personal life turned upside down.

She developed idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and went from being a busy and thriving hairdresser, hands on grandma and wife, to living alone at home and unable to work.

But during the covid lockdowns, she discovered a slow-burning love for all things baking, finding solace, connection and happiness cooking for her friends and loved ones.

I spoke to Karenza for this January’s BBC Good Food magazine, and my ongoing close connections series.
